Tempted by the Jaguar: The Complete Edition (Riverford Shifters Book 1) by Cristina Rayne

This story is set in a complex, well-constructed world similar to our modern world, but there are shifters of many kinds.
Our hero is a jaguar shifter, who rescues the heroine from a human serial killer. I really liked Hunter. He is a bit of the strong and silent type, and he has a take-charge attitude. He is very kind to the heroine, who he finds in her jaguar form when he rescues her. Hunter realizes that he doesn’t know her, and makes assumptions about what kind of shifter she is, and he helps her to integrate into the jaguar clan and learn about being a shifter. There is a strong attraction between them, but it is complicated by secrets they both have.
The heroine has many secrets, but she is a smart, kind young woman. She had never shifted before the serial killer kidnapped her, and she is shocked and scared to find herself in jaguar form, without control by her human self. Kylie has a really unique history, that we find more and more about through the entire set of books, and each discovery I made about her just increased my interest in her. There were a few things that happened that I just couldn’t figure out, but later, I found out when the hero found out. I really thought that aspect of the plot was well thought out. I was constantly intrigued to learn more about this special woman.
The book has the romantic plot set in a plot where the good shifters are fighting the evil shifters on a world-wide scale, and the evil shifters have been winning recently. In this set of stories, the good guys strike a major blow against the bad guys.
So often in shifter romances I have read it doesn’t particularly matter if the character is a shifter, sometimes it isn’t a major part of the plot. That frustrates me with those other stories. This story, on the other hand, was really a shifter story–people change forms, people fight in human and shifter form, and different types of shifters differ from each other in major ways. For example, I was really happy when a tiger shifter bit a bad guy’s head off to save the girls. Totally shifter cool.
I received an ARC from the author and this is an honest review. I had previously purchased and read the first book of this 4 book boxed set, and I loved it. That is actually how I started following this excellent author.

The complete first story arc in the Riverford Shifters paranormal romance series from New York Times & USA Today Bestselling author Cristina Rayne

Kylie Moore has a secret, one she and her adoptive father have carefully guarded for over a decade since the night her parents disappeared. However, when she is randomly attacked one night in her apartment complex’s parking lot, that one violent act sets in motion events that reveal not only her long-dormant shifter heritage in the worst possible way, but could also railroad her efforts of finding out what really happened to her parents.

Suddenly finding herself the center of attention among Riverford’s shifter clans, Kylie’s only hope of navigating such a dangerous minefield of politics and perpetual battles over territory is Hunter, a too-sexy-for-her-peace-of-mind jaguar shifter that might be her key to gaining insider access to the hidden and secretive shifter society.

Now Kylie must decide whether to integrate more deeply into Hunter’s jaguar clan in order to take advantage of this rare opportunity or to run while her secret still remains uncovered. To stay would mean deliberately putting herself in more danger than Kylie may be prepared to handle, especially when Hunter, the person she must rely on, may be hiding something as well.

Set includes Parts 1-4: Transformation, Revelation, Ramification, and Infiltration
Contains strong sexual content and language, intended for readers 18+
